Anyone who uses Pinterest has probably seen a pin or two with the idea of creating a Blessing Bag to give to homeless people when you see them. Some blogs have suggested stashing a few in the back seat of your car for when you see a person in need at a stop light or elsewhere. Since I don’t live that close to an urban area, there is not a large homeless population that I come into contact with. Any time that I am driving in Chicago or Milwaukee, I always find myself wishing that I had remembered to put together a few bags to pass on to people that I come across.
The whole point of this project was to remind myself and others that being a kind person and being kind does not have to be expensive or time consuming. The next time you’re at the dollar store, buy a few extra toiletries, or even go through your medicine cabinet for some shampoos and body wash from your last vacation.
Ziploc bags are really great for the bags, so be sure to snag a few of those at the dollar store as well. Just a few ideas for what to include:
-travel toothbrush/toothpaste set
-travel sized shampoos, conditioner, body wash
-individual, non-perishable food that can be eaten anywhere (nuts, dried fruit, applesauce)
-gloves or a hat
-small water bottles or a juice box
